WIRRAL Mencap is looking for performers to take part in its charity comedy night.

Those wanting to perform must be a novice and able to attend four workshops with local comedian Jack Miller from The Comedy Trust to put together and work on a stand up routine.

Budding comedians will then perform their routine in front of a live audience on Thursday, March 29, battling it out to see who the best stand up on the night is.

Workshops begin on Thursday, February 29 and run every Thursday evening from 6pm-8pm until the day of the event. Performers are asked to start gathering ideas for their routine, sell 10 tickets to family and friends, and get sponsored.

The money raised from the event will go towards providing accessible learning and social opportunities for adults with learning disabilities on the Wirral.

One of Wirral Mencap’s very own, Ben Duggan, is performing and said: “Comedy is something that has always interested me and this is a chance to support the charity I work for and raise money / awareness for a cause I wholeheartedly believe in.”

Another of the performers already signed up to the Comedy Night, Graham Walker, said: “If you want to help a local charity and you want to convince yourself that you are funny – it’s different doing stand-up as opposed to just chatting, give it a go. Get involved. Just promise you won’t be funnier than me!”
