THE number of oversubscribed secondary schools in Wirral has been revealed.
Last week, the Globe reported how 16 primary schools in Wirral were oversubscribed for the academic year 2023/24.
An oversubscribed school is defined as a school that has had more applications than there are available places.
With secondary schools playing a huge part in a young person's development and future, and older children able to travel further for a good school, Department for Education data shows that eight secondary schools were oversubscribed across Wirral in the current academic year.
The most oversubscribed secondary school in Wirral was Woodchurch High School. The school had 425 students apply but could only offer 264 spaces.
The second most oversubscribed was Birkenhead High School Academy, offering only 134 spaces to 219 applicants.
In third place was St John Plessington Catholic Secondary School rejecting 57 applications. The school had 269 spaces but 326 applicants.

- Calday Grange Grammar School: Oversubscribed by 30
- Upton Hall School FCJ: Oversubscribed by 28
- Birkenhead High School Academy: Oversubscribed by 85
