A PROJECT, dubbed a 'man crèche', is aiming to get Wirral men out of the house and involved in a range of activities and events.

North Wirral Round Table chairman, Chris Nolan, started the project to encourage more men from across the borough to make new friends while taking part in social and community events.

The group, who meet twice a month, is open to any men aged between 18 and 45.

Chris told the Globe: “The 'man creche' was a marketing gimmick - we’re obviously not a literal man creche, but it was a way of raising awareness and getting new members involved and the response we’ve had to it has been brilliant.”

The organisation offers a range of activities for members to get involved in including laser quest, crystal maze, pool night, pub quiz, art and pottery, paintballing, go-karting, and clay pigeon shooting.

Chris said: “As well the social side we also are a community group who helps give back and take part in good causes.

“There is also a serious side to it as much as the idea of a man creche is fun and funny there is obviously a huge problem with men’s mental health and young men need a group where they can find friendship or do something for the local community.”

The North Wirral Round Table currently has 15 members and Chris hopes by raising awareness that more local men will join.

He said: “We always say to new people wanting to join to just come along and see how they get on with the lads and we usually get a very positive response.

“Most people come down and meet everyone and realise it’s a group of like-minded group of people. We all really try to make people feel comfortable and welcome because if you’re a newcomer it can be difficult coming along to a new event.

“There are two sides to it - there's the social side but then there’s the fundraising and the community side and I’d say that everyone gets something different out of it.

“Some people might join it because they really want the social side of things other people might really want to do more in the community and give back that way but what we find is it quite quickly becomes a cross over so people who started wanting the social side start becoming engaged in the community stuff. We find the two go hand in hand really.”
