A BIRKENHEAD hairdresser is proving to be a cut above the rest after being honoured at a prestigious hair and beauty awards ceremony.

Aaron Jones, whose salon is on Hamilton Square, was shortlisted for two National Beauty Awards 2023 – Best Hairdresser and Best Colour Salon – and the talented stylist took the hairdresser title and came runner up in the colour category.

The National Beauty Awards were held at The Liverpool Titanic Hotel on Sunday, October 1 hosted by Radio City presenter Leanne Campbell.

With 52 categories recognising the best in the business, the event has doubled its attendance since the previous awards night with expert judges selecting winners and runners up.

Aaron said: “I was shortlisted for two categories and this is my second time winning Best Hairdresser.

“It is amazing to have won two years in a row, especially this year as it was judged and presented by the highly sought after Naomi Chantelle.

“To be recognized as the best by another amazing person in the industry is a great feeling.

“It’s such a great achievement for not only myself but also my salon - a great accolade to back my next year in business, where I hope to continue to evolve and strive for success.”

Aaron opened his salon in November 2017 - a boutique style salon centred around three simple principles: artistic freedom, quality service and putting the client first.

Aaron said: “I decided to open AJH after a few years of not being able to find my place in other salons.

“I had a particular vibe in mind and this was missing from all the places I’d worked previously.

“So, I decided to put my money where my mouth is and try to create an artistic space that was classy enough to submerge the client in luxury but still feel they could tap into a relaxed atmosphere, away from the stresses of everyday life.

“I also wanted space to allow stylists to work creatively and thrive in finding their own niche.”

Jody Riley, a former beautician and one of the founders of the awards, said: “When we decided to create The National Beauty Awards we wanted to produce an event outside of London bringing together like-minded people.

“We wanted an event which appealed to everyone in the beauty and cosmetics industry, whether you were a beautician, cosmetics nurse, make-up artist, nail or brow technician.

“We wanted this to be inclusive and accessible to all in the beauty industry, whether you are a clinic, salon owner or providing a mobile beauty service.”

Alex Alexander, cosmetics nurse and co-founder of the awards added: “I think what sets us apart is that we have both worked in the beauty and cosmetics industry for many years and we wanted to create a different event that was unique to all of the other award ceremonies we had attended over the years.

“We wanted to put our own style on the event, but also more relevant to the industry we work in.”
