Kelly opened her own business four years ago in August 2019 on Seaview Road in Wallasey having been in the beauty industry since 2013.

She started as a mobile makeup artist which she was able to fit around being a single mum and a carer.

Kelly, who is 33, said: “I have always loved anything beauty-related and ten years ago I thought there was a gap in the industry for makeup artists.

“There weren’t many makeup artists around, especially mobile ones, so I decided to leave my care job and pursue my makeup career.

“I would travel all over the north west from Chester and Ellesmere Port to Liverpool and would still charge the flat fee of £15.

“I started adding hair packages to the makeup service and offered hair and make up for just £28.

“As my client base started to grow, I wasn’t able to offer mobile services and decided to base myself at home.

“I could fit appointments round my children and didn’t have to rely on childcare.

“I began adding more treatments including lashes, nails and brows.

“I decided to take the plunge and find my own premises so that I could separate work life and home life and my first salon was a small place on Wallasey Road, where I worked with three other girls doing makeup, beauty treatments and hair services.”

After a successful first year, Kelly moved to larger premises just a short distance away in Liscard and she was able to expand her team, adding three more members of staff.

Two years later, she moved to even bigger premises on Seaview Road where she now has a team of ten members of staff and a growing client base.

Kelly said: “I was worried it wouldn’t work but can honestly say it was the best thing I’ve ever done.

“All my team moved with me to our new premises and I welcomed a further five new staff members to our team.

“We now have a team of ten and we are busier than ever!

“In the last 12 months, I have trained as a beauty educator and I now offer training courses passing my skills and knowledge onto the future of our industry.

“I have a phenomenally talented team of girls and I feel extremely lucky to still be able to continue the dream with such a busy and successful salon.”

At Glow Aesthetics, they offer a wide range of treatments from aesthetics, make up and other beauty treatments as well as hair services, nails and semi-permanent makeup, in addition to training courses.

Kelly said: “The most popular treatments are skin focused, with clients wanting to look youthful, have more of a glow with fewer wrinkles and feel hydrated.

“The demand for skin booster treatments, fat dissolving and anti-wrinkle treatments is high.”

She added: “There are so many amazing salons in the area and competition is tough but I feel blessed to have a consistent flow of bookings each week and I’m very lucky that my clients have followed me to each location.

“I am extremely lucky to have their support and continued custom.

“I think what sets us aside from other salons is the pride we take in our impeccable customer service.

“Our five-star reviews speak for themselves.”

But what do clients really think about Glow Aesthetics? Why did they want the business to win our latest award?

One nomination said: “The salon is so welcoming and warm and everyone goes above and beyond.”

Another said: “They never fail to make me feel effortlessly stunning.”

Kelly says the best thing about her job is giving people confidence and helping them feel comfortable in their own skin.

She likes giving clients a boost so they can leave the salon “feeling like a million dollars”.

Kelly said: “When we found out we were nominated for the Wirral Globe’s Best for Beauty award we were shocked so to find out we’d won was unbelievable.

“We’re so proud and it makes all the hard work we’ve put in worthwhile.”

She added: “My salon is the best thing I ever did.
“I have a great routine with work life and home life balance, my son is thriving in school and my girls are doing really well - I am so happy and content with my working mum life balance.

“I’m a great believer that everything happens for a reason – everything has fallen into place and who knows, maybe next year I will go even bigger!”
