THOSE planning their journey to Aintree for this year's Grand National will be able to take advantage of a special Merseyrail timetable.

As one of the biggest events in the racing calendar, The Grand National attracts thousands of visitors each year from across the region and train operator Merseyrail will be ferrying them to the racecourse with a dedicated timetable including a seven and half minute service between Liverpool Central and Moorfields stations and Aintree.

The timetable will be in place for the duration of the festival, from April 13 to April 15, with seven and a half minute services available from approximately 11am to 2pm (before the races) and approximately 5pm to 8.48pm (after the races).

Passengers travelling to the festival from any Wirral line stations are advised to change at Moorfields for an Aintree-bound train.

Anyone planning to travel between the 13-15 April is advised to plan their journey in advance using the journey planner on Merseyrail’s website for up to date departure times and to understand how the changes affect their journey.

The train operator has also reiterated that passengers are not permitted to consume alcohol or carry an open container of alcohol. Those under the influence of alcohol who are unfit to travel will be refused access to the Merseyrail network.
