A WIRRAL care home has opened a new shop for their residents and visitors.

Anchor’s Sandstones care home on Penkett Road, in Wallasey, celebrated the opening of its brand new, resident shop on Tuesday, February 28.

A party was attended by residents, members of the local community and the Mayor of Wirral, Jeff Green, with his wife, Carol.

To mark the official opening, guests enjoyed light refreshments in Anchor’s Sandstones lounge before Councillor Green cut a ceremonial ribbon to declare the shop open.

Residents and guests then continued to enjoy refreshments and enjoy musical entertainment in the shape of karaoke and dancing. The new shop includes old-time sweets, handmade gifts and toiletries for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Skander Khayati, Regional Support Manager of Anchor’s Sandstones care home, said: "We’re delighted to open our new shop and deeply honoured that Councillor Green and his wife could join us! We’ve worked hard on the new facilities and my team did wonderful work to get everything looking so nice.

"We had some wonderful people volunteer to help us decorate and set up the new shop, so I’d like to say a huge thank you to them too. Everyone here at Anchor’s Sandstones is really excited to have the new shop open."

Ethel Morris, 87, said: "I’m really excited to have our new shop open, I’m looking forward to getting all sorts of nice treats there."
