A COUPLE from Wirral experienced their “dream” marriage proposal while on stage with the iconic dance-pop group Steps.
Adam Higginson, 31, and Ste Horton, 34, from Bebington started dating in May after originally meeting on Tinder last year.
The couple, who said they have been huge fans of the band since they were six years old, celebrated their moment while on stage at Birmingham Pride on Sunday, September 25.
Adam, a local hairdresser, told the Globe about the moment when he got down on one knee, he said: “It all started when I was on a night out and I just began messaging every member of Steps to see if it would be possible to organise a proposal.
“Ste has always said his dream proposal would be at a Steps concert and we were going to see them in Birmingham, so I thought it’s now or never.”
Band member, Faye Tozer, responded to Adam’s request and after putting him in contact with their management and four weeks of organising, Adam had secured his plan.
He said: “Originally, we were going to do it in the crowd but then their manager told me it was going to be on stage so I told Ste that I had paid for this big meet and greet experience which meant we could watch them from the side of the stage.
“He’s burst out crying when I told him. He’s loved Steps since he was a little boy, so he never thought he’d get the experience to meet them.”
While Adam and Ste watched the performance, band member Clare asked the couple to come out on stage.
Adam said: “I started gagging from the nerves when we were first taken backstage but because no one knew what I was about to do people thought I had just drunk too much.
“I kept telling people I was fine, but I thought I was going to be sick. My legs gave out on me I didn’t even know if I was going to be able to walk out on stage.
“Ste kept asking me if I was okay because I was being so quiet, but I was just focusing on getting down on one knee getting the ring out, and getting back up again.”
While out on stage, Adam got down on one knee and proposed to Ste.
Adam said: “The crowd started cheering and Ste just burst into tears. He was so overwhelmed by it all.
“The whole thing was so surreal.
“I think because I was so stressed with the proposal and how it was going to happen even when I’m looking back, I can’t believe it’s actually happened.
“This is the first in their 25-year career that Steps have done a proposal on stage, and it was also the first stage proposal Birmingham Pride has had in their 25 years too.
“Everyone has had such a lovely reaction to it. Steps were absolutely amazing it felt like we were meeting our best friends on stage.
“For that moment it was as though we had known them for years and they genuinely cared about what we were doing.
“It was only after Pride that I realised I had hugged every member of my favourite pop band since I was little. It was the most amazing experience.”
