NESTON is hosting a Halloween Special take on their historically popular Friday Market.

This year Neston Town Council will be holding their Halloween market on Friday October, 28 from 8am-2pm.

Market's history

First appearing in 1728 when King George III granted a royal charter for a weekly market, Neston Friday market has been a popular and well loved weekly event ever since.

During the mid-1800s the market was so successful that people would travel from North Wales across the River Dee estuary on foot, ponies, donkeys and on carts to get to Neston Market.

The Market today retains all of its historic charm and has a wide ranging offer including fashion for all the family, shoes, bags, cosmetics, jewellery, bedding, household goods, stationery, sweets, plants and pet supplies as well as fresh fruit and vegetables, meats, fish, cheese and a variety of bakery produce including Greek, Lebanese, American, French and British.

Neston Market is a focal point for the town where locals and shoppers tend to meet.

The market is friendly, informal and often has live music and entertainment which adds to the relaxed and jovial atmosphere.

Halloween special - what's on

For the Halloween special, Neston Town Council will be holding a book stall with proceeds raised being donated to the Wirral and Neston Rotary Hub.

Local talent such as 64 N’Ukes and Gabriel Roberts will be providing musical entertainment on the day.

There will also be Halloween themed characters helping out on stalls, free face painting from 9.30am and free entry to the Halloween trail.

Entry forms are available from the Neston Town Council stall.

There will be an additional Halloween biscuit decorating activity for children with ‘The Wooden Spoonful’ and some Halloween painted rocks will be hidden, by Neston Town Council, around the market square to find and re-hide or keep for yourself.

Mayor of Neston, Cllr Pat Kynaston said: “Neston Town Council is delighted that our market is thriving and developing. The upcoming Halloween market is an example of our feature Fridays that run though the year. Thanks are due to our staff for their work towards making these happen.”

Deputy Mayor, Cllr Sion Jones added: "Neston market is the social heart of Neston's community, a place where people meet their friends and family every week whatever the weather to chat, shop and enjoy the ambience and buzz of this popular and much loved community asset."
