LIVERPOOL fans came together to applaud New Brighton dad Liam Clark during the club's Champions League clash against Salzburg.

Liam, 21, tragically lost his life in a car accident while driving home from work near Birmingham on Tuesday, September 10.

As a huge Liverpool fan, Liam's family and friends launched a campaign to keep his memory alive - their first challenge being to get fellow football fans to clap for Liam on the 21st minute of the Salzburg game.

After weeks of campaigning and raising awareness, the game at Anfield last night (Wednesday, October 2) saw thousands of fans pay their respects to Liam on the 21st minute.

Many of Liam's family and pals were at the game to witness the remarkable event.

Liam's brother Zach Wilmer, told the Globe: "On the 21st minute of the game, it felt like Liam's family had extended by more than 50,000 people as the crowd stood up and clapped for a fellow brother.

"We had goosebumps, we were shaking and crying while clapping with pride!

"Liam is part of the Liverpool family and it showed.

"We will always be eternally grateful for the way Anfield showed it’s love for our Clarky.

"They are the best fans in the world and it showed.

"When they sing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ they really mean it."

Over the next few months Liam's family will be holding events and are even looking to get a memorial bench for Liam in Central Park, Liscard.

In order to do this, the family will have to raise £1,200 to be able to place the bench next to the pitch on the sideline where his team North Wirral Saints put their bags before a match.
