LIFEBOAT volunteers were called to assist a broken down yacht in the River Mersey.
Hoylake RNLI crew received a call at around 4.25am on Sunday, March 31 following reports a 9m yacht had suffered engine failure and was drifting close to the main shipping lanes in the River Mersey with three people on board.
The volunteer crew launched lifeboat Edmund Hawthorn Micklewood and soon found the yacht, taking it under tow and into the River Mersey via the Rock Channel.
Volunteers then managed to guide the yacht into Liverpool Marine lock before returning to Hoylake RNLI station at 9am.

No-one was injured during the rescue.
Hoylake RNLI Coxswain Andy Dodd said: "The crew of the yacht had all of the right safety equipment on board and did the right thing by calling the coastguard in the circumstances.
"Being so close to the busy shipping lanes of the River Mersey, the yacht and its crew could have soon found themselves in a dangerous situation had they not been taken under tow.
"We were pleased that we could finally bring them to the safety of the marina after their difficult journey from Holyhead."
