A BIRKENHEAD based creative arts and well-being community project has won a top prize at this year’s Liverpool City Region Community Arts and Music Awards.

The Spider Project, based in Hamilton Street, scooped up the Health and Wellbeing Award on Friday, April 20 at The Florrie in Liverpool.

Aimed for people overcoming drug and alcohol addictions or low level mental health issues, the project offers up to 35 different creative, holistic and physical exercise courses every week to build confidence and help people grow in a creative and safe environment

They also organise regular art and photography exhibitions, outward bounds trips and a three day festival.

The event, hosted by Florrie patron and actor Ricky Tomlinson, the evening included performances from local musicians Remee and The Baby Faced Beatles.

Guests were also treated to a three course evening meal before the ceremony began.

In total, 24 people and organisations were up for an award from across Merseyside.

Other winners included Mellowtone who received ‘Making a Difference Through Music’ and Rotunda who won the ‘Education and Training Award’.

A spokesman for The Florrie said: “Thanks to our wonderful sponsors as well as many other organisations that supported us and our host for the night Ricky Tomlinson.

“We’d like to thank all our amazing staff and volunteers who worked their sock off on the night. It’s wouldn’t have been possible without them.”
