WALLASEY-born chef and broadcaster Simon Rimmer is gearing up to host this year's Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards.

Taking place at St George's Hall, the black-tie event on May 24 looks to recognise excellence across Merseyside's tourism and hospitality industry.

Simon said: “I am delighted to be hosting the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards 2018.

"The tourism and hospitality industry across the region has developed rapidly over the last few years and these awards provide an excellent opportunity to celebrate this success.

"Also, being on home ground makes the awards that bit extra special.

"I am really looking forward to meeting all the award winners."

This year more than 500 people are set to attend and the 15 award categories have already been shortlisted.

Cathryn O’Grady from Eventful, the award organisers, said: “For Simon to agree to host the awards is fantastic news, his profile and knowledge of the region – particularly of the local restaurant scene, is strong, and his broadcasting skills should help the evening run smoothly.

“For this year’s awards we have had an incredible number of high quality entries, including a lot of new names, from right across the region’s tourism sector.

"It should be a great night, celebrating the best of the growing visitor economy.”
