HERE in Wirral, we have constituency committee meetings.

These are meetings where all our local councillors and council, within a particular area can engage with their public.

The four constituencies are: Birkenhead and Tranmere, Wirral South, Wallasey and Wirral West.

They are held on average every three months. Times and dates can be found on the council website.

I have attended all four of the constituency meetings.

The public are allowed to ask their councillor and council questions on topics they are concerned with.

I was aghast, when attending these meetings, that questions which had been previously submitted (in some cases, 20 or more), concerning the Hoylake Golf Resort where either ignored, or only one question was read.

I even heard a council solicitor tell one person that they had asked the same question at previous meetings.

The person involved was furious and strongly denied the accusation.

Questions and discussion were constantly blocked by councillors and council, with the exception of Birkenhead and Tranmere, where, only the council leader could answer questions regarding the Hoylake Golf Resort.

Are we yet again being ‘gagged’ from voicing our concerns? Is this democratic?
