FORECASTERS have issued a severe weather warning for ice across Wirral.

Icy stretches are expected to form from today at 7pm until Friday, January 19 at 10am.

Ice will form on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths which could lead to injuries from slips and falls.

This may also lead to difficult driving conditions and longer journey times.

Rain, hail, sleet and snow showers will continue throughout Wales and western England at the end of the week.

A spokesman for MetOffice said: "Showers will continue pushing across Wales and western England through Thursday night and into Friday.

"With some cold air in place these will fall as a mixture of rain, sleet and hail at low levels with snow mainly above 150m.

"Surface temperatures will readily fall on Thursday evening leading to icy stretches forming, mainly on untreated surfaces but with continuing showers some wash off is possible."
