Drop-in sessions for HIV testing Sexual Health Wirral is supporting national HIV testing week - a nationwide campaign to encourage testing and help reduce transmission rates of HIV.

HIV can affect all ages, genders, ethnicities and sexualities and a large number of new infections come from unprotected sex with someone who isn’t aware they have HIV.

In Wirral, more than 40% of people being treated for HIV are heterosexual.

The team is encouraging anyone, regardless of their age, gender, sexuality or ethnicity, who hasn’t had an HIV test to come along to one of their clinics and take a test.

Even if you’ve had a test, but have changed your sexual partner it’s important to take another test.

HIV testing has never been easier. It’s confidential and free from all Sexual Health Wirral clinics.

This week, as well as the usual clinics there are extra drop-in sessions offering HIV blood testing:

  • Monday, November 20, 8am - noon, St Catherine’s Health Centre, Derby Road, Birkenhead.
  • Tuesday, November 21, 8am - noon, Victoria Central Health Centre
  • Wednesday, November 22, 4pm - 7pm, St Catherine’s Health Centre
  • Thursday, November 23, 10am - 2.pm, St Catherine’s Health Centre

Testing regularly is important and since the launch of HIV postal test kits in mid-June over 40% of tests returned to the service have been from people who have never had an HIV test.
