MOTORBIKE and scooter owners in Wirral were given crime prevention advice at a special roadshow following a spate of thefts.

Police, along with representatives from Wirral's anti-social behaviour team and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, hosted the event at Marriott Motorcycles in Birkenhead.

They provided advice on how motorbike and scooter owners can protect themselves against vehicle theft.

Community Sergeant Chris Bland said: "We have experienced a number of thefts of motorbikes and scooters in recent weeks and months, and the anti-social behaviour that can often follow committed by those who have stolen the bikes.

"As a result and in addition to targeting suspected offenders, we are making efforts to prevent further thefts by distributing locks and chains as well as practical steps people can take to ensure they don't become the next victim.

"The event was well attended and owners were provided with advice on how best to apply security devices.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who attended.

"As the colder weather is approaching, you may be tempted to idle your bike in the morning whilst you grab a brew and stand with it.

"A few seconds is all it takes for a thief.

"Don't give them the opportunity."
