A 'BEST of British' soup lunch is planned to celebrate the reopening of Willaston’s historic Memorial Hall after a major restoration project.

The work, which took place over the summer, was made possible thanks to grants worth more than £20,000.

Local residents are invited to attend the soup lunch, hosted by the trustees, taking place on Saturday, November 11 at 12pm.

Built in the late 19th century, the venue is positioned next to Willaston’s village green.

It is a hub for community events in the village, from pre-school play groups and Pilates classes, to country markets and guiding groups.

The hall's original beams and decorative windows remain, but regular use meant the paintwork needed refreshing and soft furnishings were in need of replacement.

Colin Jerrett, chair of committee for the hall's trustees, said: "We are very grateful to the funders who have made these much-needed improvements possible."
