WEST Wirral MP Margaret Greenwood has urged Globe readers' continued support for a rescue centre that helps hedgehogs safe and well.

The Hog Centre takes in sick and injured hedgehogs, caring for them and providing medical treatment to bring them back to full health, before releasing them back into the wild.

It is looking for more local people to get involved.

If you are over 16, you can volunteer at the Hog Centre. There are also opportunities to help with hedgehog transport, hedgehog release and fundraising

You can also donate supplies such as cat / kitten / hedgehog food and biscuits, old newspapers, kitchen roll and disposable gloves

You can donate cash to the centre, which is bun by Wirral Animal Sanctuary Hedgehog Rescue, to help with the cost of medication and equipment.

During a visit to the centre, Margaret Greenwood MP met volunteers and hear about the work that goes on there.

She said: "This is a fantastic facility, and there is so much good work that goes on here.

"The volunteers do a great job and are very dedicated in their work looking after injured hedgehogs and nursing them back to health.

"I would urge anyone who is interested in volunteering, or anyone who thinks they might be able to help in any other way, to get in touch.

"The centre also has numerous displays containing information about hedgehogs and what to do if you come across one in your garden or near where you live, so do pop in or get in touch if you are curious."

Centre manager Erika France said: "We completely depend on the support of volunteers and kind donations from the local community, so please come and help us.

"No prior experience is necessary.

"You could volunteer for a weekly session, or it could be an ideal placement for students taking a related course.

"We are currently looking after 52 hedgehogs, and we have had just under 200 through the door since we opened in January this year."
