WIRRAL smokers are being encouraged to quit for a month-long Stoptober campaign.

Support from health experts at ABL Wirral and Wirral Council is available to anyone who wants to kick their habit.

ABL is a community healthcare organisation working to create healthier, better lives for people from all backgrounds.

There is also help available for people who want to switch to or quit e-cigs.

Nicotine and smoking cessation lead at ABL Wirral Elizabeth Woodworth said: “Since we started the service last year we’ve supported more than 2,000 people to stop smoking so what we do really works.

"We work in communities across the borough so this support is being offered right on your doorstep.

"I’d encourage anyone who is ready to take the first steps to quitting to contact us today and let us help you on your journey to a healthier life.”

During Stoptober the ABL Wirral team will be out and about in the borough offering free advice to people thinking of quitting.

People can quit using medication including nicotine replacement therapies such as patches and gum or e-cigarettes.

Cllr Chris Jones, cabinet member for Adult Social Care and Health at Wirral Council said: “Quitting is the single best thing you can do for your health and there has never been a better time to stop smoking.

"If you stop smoking for 28 days then you are five times more likely to stop for good, improving both your own and your family’s health.

“I encourage everyone in Wirral who smokes to take on the challenge this year.

"With the help of our local stop smoking advisers and the campaign’s support and motivation, I am sure we will have another successful Stoptober.”

Free advice and support will be on offer at the 'Information Bank' at Arrowe Park Hospital on Friday, September 29 from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.
