TORRENTIAL downpours brought chaos to parts of Greasby this afternoon as roads were flooded after just 30 minutes of rain.

Inches of water submerged driveways and pavements during the freak thunder and lightening storms.

Firefighters and residents worked to clear the roads as drainage systems in Arrowe Road failed to cope.

And some households in Arrowe Brook and Rigby Drive were left soaking inside and out.

Fire crews closed the more impassable roads for twenty minutes to await the council.

And residents wearing wellies armed themselves with brushes and shovels to help the water into the drains.

Pensioner Alan Jones from Arrowe Road arrived home after the storm to find a deep pool of water in his drive.

"This is the fourth time in two weeks that this has happened," he said.

"The water has got beneath my floorboards and I will be onto the insurance company yet again.

"We are most vulnerable to flooding on this part of the road as we are near the bottom of a slight hill and the drain isn't big enough to cope.

"The council need to put another one in to stop this from happening."
