THE DATE Friday 13 may be a bad omen for some people, but for a love-struck Wirral couple, it was the happiest day of their lives.

Edwin Lowrey from Spital is a firm believer in third time lucky as he tied the knot with his now third wife Alison Johnson.

The pair got engaged at Christmas and despite opposition from superstitious relatives, they set their date - because not surprisingly, it was the only one available at Wirral's Thornton Hall Hotel.

"After the engagement, we wanted to get married as soon as possible," said company director Edwin who has been with Alison, an optical assistant, for over two years.

"When we found out that Friday the 13th was the only date we could get, we decided to go for it although Alison did take a while to come round to the idea."

The couple have two children each from previous marriages and are looking forward to a happy future together.

The fear of Friday the 13th is called paraska-vedekatriaphobia, a word that is derived from the combination of the Greek words meaning Friday, thirteen, and phobia.
