PEOPLE in Wirral are still being pointed in the wrong directions as readers report more inaccurate road signage.

Last week, we revealed how a post in Conway Street, Birkenhead led the public in opposite directions to the landmarks listed on them.

One of the signs for Conway Park railway station pointed in the direction of Argyle Street, while another for Hamilton Square led people towards the Birkenhead Park entrance.

Director of technical services David Green blamed the errors on "selfish people who feel it is a joke to alter signage around."

But this week, Wallasey resident Geoff Holmes said that yobs are not to blame for the blunder at the junction of Bayswater Road and Harrison Drive.

The sign indicates that Harrison Park is located somewhere out to sea.

And Mr Holmes said: "This error is not due to vandals as the pointer for the park has been pointing 150 degrees in the wrong direction ever since the post was erected by Wirral Council's Highways Department."

And West Kirby resident Priscilla Bench-Capon said: "At the junction of Grange Road and Westbourne Road, the signs to Parish Church and the Methodist Church both point in the wrong directions.

"A problem for people trying to get to funerals and weddings." David Green, director of technical services said: "We would like to thank the Wirral Globe and readers for bringing these signposts to our attention. This is a great example of how Wirral residents can help us to keep improving our service. Obviously we can't be everywhere and check every sign, so we do really appreciate information of this kind."

Anyone wishing to report an error with a sign, or any other aspect of street furniture, can contact Streetscene by email streetscene@wirral.gov.uk or by phone 0151 606 2004 and they will be given a unique reference number.
