THESE pictures show the mess that was left by travellers at a Wirral beauty spot.
The Woodland Trust had the task of clearing up Upton Meadow wood in an operation costing the conservation charity nearly £6,000.
More than 20 vehicles had parked the site on June 29, but were evicted a week later after The Woodland Trust obtained a county order.
But they just drove across the peninsula to The Dips in New Brighton, but moved out of Wirral on July 7 after the council took action.
On the mess that was left behind at Upton Meadow, Woodland Trust's site manager Neil Oxley said: "Sadly there was a large amount of waste dumped including rubble, bags of litter and even excrement.
"As a result we had to employ a specialist contractor to remove it.
"It's a real shame that we have had to spend our valuable funds in this way, but we are glad to have resolved the problem as swiftly as possible to ensure everyone locally is able to enjoy the site again.
"Thankfully there appears to be no lasting damage and we will work closely with the local council to ensure this is not repeated."
