EMERGENCY services were called into action when a woman became cut-off by the incoming tide at New Brighton.

The alarm sounded around 7.25pm on Thursday.

Two members of Wirral coastguard team were attached to rescue floating lines and entered the water near Harrison Drive.

Others cleared the beach as a crowd gathered to watch the operation.

The woman was brought to shore where she was immediately assessed by paramedics.

New Brighton lifeboat and Hoylake hovercraft provided safety cover while the rescue took place.

RNLI Hoylake also deployed two crew members to assist in the water.

A coastguard rescue helicopter was also inbound from Caernarfon to assist, however it was stood down en route.

A spokesman from the coastguard said: β€œIt is important to always check tide times when going to the beach to ensure you don't get caught out however if you do find yourself in difficulty, don't hesitate to dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
