GREASBY Infant school have received their first Eco Schools Green Flag Award.

The award was given to the school on Thursday, July 6 by Mayor of Wirral Ann McLachlan who presented the children with their green flag.

Pupils at the school have been involved in conservation projects to attract more wildlife to their area such as bats and swifts.

The Eco Schools programme engages millions of children across 64 different countries making it the largest environmental schools programme in the world.

Deputy head teacher Siobhan Cooper told the Globe: "The Eco warriors told the mayor all about how they had been involved in local conservation projects by making nesting boxes for bats and swifts.

"The children also helped to create a new pond to attract wildlife and raised money to buy birds for our school aviary.

"The whole school has had great fun learning about the importance of looking after our environment and the native species that live alongside us."

All schools who want a green flag have to achieve bronze and silver award status.

Schools can apply for the green flag by filling out an online application form and then a member of the Keep Britain Tidy team will come out to assess to the school.
