HISTORIC footage uncovered from 1932 has revealed Match of The Day style highlights of a Tranmere Rovers’ fixture against Chelsea.

The two teams met for a FA Cup third Round fixture at Prenton Park on January 9, 1932.

During the 1931/1932 season Rovers were in the Football League Third Division North and are deemed as ‘Little’ Tranmere in the clip but still managed to claw a draw against ‘Mighty’ Chelsea 2-2.

The club finished fourth that season with Lincoln City claiming the top spot and promotion to the Second Division.

The video clip from British Pathe features highlights of the game against Chelsea – the opening clip featuring the Rovers squad run out onto the field in the dark coloured kit.

Team captains Doug Livingstone and Alex Jackson shake hands in the middle of the pitch with Livingstone tossing a coin, choosing which direction they wish to play.

The first goal of the match was scored by Hughie Gallagher for Chelsea followed by Ernie Dixon from Rovers.

Two years later in 1934 Tranmere battled it out against Liverpool in an FA Cup tie at Anfield watched by 61,036 fans a then record crowd for any Rovers game.
