A PRETTY muddy fundraiser in aid of Cancer Research UK takes place in Birkenhead Park later this morning.

More than 1,500 women have signed up for the event, which is organised by the team behind last weekend's hugely successful Race For Life.

The fun is due to start at 10.30am, with waves of participants setting off every 15 minutes until just after midday and heading round a series of obstacles including tunnels, scramble nets and a mud chute.

Obstacles and activities in store for participants along the way include:

  • A series of giant inflatable hurdles.
  • A scramble net, with water pistols.
  • Bouncing along on a space-hoppers for part of the course
  • A climb to the top of the A-frame using the net and then go over the top and back down the other side.
  • The Crawler – a natural obstacle
  • The Climb – another natural one – a hilly incline to tackle Durdles - hurdles for ladies to climb over but this time there’s a mud pit waiting for you to land in on the other side.
  • Mud Chute - Climb up the big inflatable slide and then whizz down the other side and splat into a mud bath.
  • After climbing out of the mud pool, it will finish with a short sprint, run, jog or walk to the finish line to claim medal.

Sarah Hunter, event manager for Cancer Research UK, said: "It's our second year staging Pretty Muddy in Wirral and our first year bringing it to Birkenhead Park.

"It promises to be a great day with everyone having lots of fun.

"It's also great fun to spectate at so if you've sponsored someone why not come and cheer them on.

"Every day around 110 people are diagnosed with cancer in the North West.

"Participants will get very muddy so don’t forget to bring a carrier bag and change of clothes too!"
