A WIRRAL man has finished a national walking challenge with TV presenter Jeff Stelling for Prostate Cancer UK.

Neil Jackson, 46, from Greasby dusted off his walking boots to join Jeff on day six of the march on Wednesday, June 7 walking 26 miles from Chester Football Club to Everton Football club via Prenton Park and Anfield.

He also joined the second leg from Durham CCC to Newcastle Football Club on June 15.

Teaming up with the leading men’s health organisation Jeff, the long-standing Soccer Saturday host hoped to raise £500,000 on his March for Men walking 15 marathons in 15 days from Exeter City FC to Newcastle United FC.

So far £290,942 has been raised by 968 supporters on Jeff's Justgiving page.

Tranmere Rovers fan Neil was inspired to join March for Men for the charity after two family were diagnosed with prostate cancer but thanks to early detection both were able to make a full recovery.

Neil said: "Taking part in this challenge for Prostate Cancer UK has been one of the best things I have done, I have met so many incredible people who show such bravery and commitment to beat this horrible condition on a daily basis.

“The people of Wirral showed what a class act they are with the generosity both financially and with support on the day cheering us on and the great crowd that turned up at Tranmere Rovers and to welcome all the walkers in really spurred us on to finish the total of 28 miles."

Jeff’s journey saw him visit more than 40 football clubs ending at the home of newly promoted Newcastle.

Jeff said: “It makes me feel very humble but it also makes me feel very gratified that I’m in position where I can do something.

“Prostate Cancer kills one man ever hour in the UK, and I just decided I couldn’t sit on my backside and do nothing about it.

“I can put one foot in front of the next and hopefully raise awareness and raise funds to help men beat this diabolical disease.

“We also wanted a fresh route and it gives us that opportunity to go to parts of the country that we’ve not been to before to get our message over to people who maybe didn’t hear that message as loudly last time round.”
