A MUM was repeatedly slashed with a knife by her ex-partner after she dropped off their daughter at a Wirral primary school.

John Taylor, also known as John Tate, today admitted attacking his former girlfriend Dawn Cowderoy at Devonshire Park Primary School in Prenton.

Taylor, 61, of Greenbank Road in Newton, pleaded guilty to wounding, breaching a non-molestation order and makes threats with a blade.

He denied making threats to kill, which have been dropped.

He had confronted Miss Cowderoy in the Temple Road school’s car park at about 8.20am on Monday, May 15.

He threatened her before getting in her black Audi A4 and slashing at her as she desperately defended herself.

The victim, in her 30s, suffered multiple wounds to both of her hands and was taken to hospital for treatment.

At the time Taylor was prevented from using or threatening violence against Miss Cowderoy under a non-molestation order made on May 10.

Sentence on Taylor, who appeared at Liverpool Crown Court via video link from Walton prison, was adjourned until July 27 to enable pre-sentence and psychiatric reports to be prepared.

Judge Anil Murray said the pre-sentence report must consider the issue of dangerousness and the possibility of an extended sentence.

He added: "They will assess how likely it is for you to behave like this in the future and hurt someone, so it is in your best interests to co-operate".

He warned Taylor that the “likely sentence” was an immediate sentence of imprisonment and further remanded him in custody.

Devonshire Park Primary School was evacuated and closed for the day as a result of the incident.
