A WIRRAL beach has been named one of the best in the country after being awarded an international Blue Flag quality mark by Keep Britain Tidy.
Wallasey Beach is one of 68 Blue Flag locations announced by the charity at its 2017 Blue Flag and Seaside Awards.
Situated next to Derby Pool car park the beach is maintained by the parks and countryside team at Wirral Council.
The Blue Flag Awards ensures beaches are clean and safe, meeting the highest environmental standards and the tough international bathing water quality standards.
To be awarded a blue flag, beaches must comply with a number of criteria covering environmental education and information, water quality, environmental management, plus safety and services.
Senior manager of parks and countryside at Wirral Council Mary Worrall said: “We are very proud to receive such a prestigious award for our beach, which we work hard to maintain throughout the year.
“The beauty spot is already a popular local destination for families, and we hope to welcome more visitors once the blue flag is flying proudly on the beach.”
