A NEW festival in Wirral will celebrate diversity and the contribution that people with disabilities bring to communities.

This first-ever inclusion and diversity festival will take place in Birkenhead Park on Saturday, August 19, organised by Wirral Mencap, Options for Supported Living and Wirral Evolutions.

"One Wirral 2017" will be a fantastic free day out for the whole community with activities, stalls and performances to keep everyone entertained.

Already confirmed are live music, workshops, dance and drama and an Active Zone with sports and outdoor activities.

Volunteers will play a key role in organising, promoting and delivering the event, and making sure that there is something for every ability.

The festival is supported by a £10,000 grant from the National Lottery, secured by the three organisations.

Chloe Harvey, chief executive for Wirral Mencap, said: "One Wirral 2017 will be a celebration of diversity and all it has to offer.

"We want the festival to be for all people in Wirral, regardless of disability, age, sexuality, gender, race or religion. We want everyone to feel part of 'One Wirral' community.

"It’s a great opportunity for local people with disabilities to take a leading role in an event which will boost their confidence and bring benefits to the whole community."
