WIRRAL’S libraries have received a cash boost to run a series of creative free writing workshops.

More than £7,000 was given to the Write Time Write Place project by the Arts Council in order to run a six week creative writing course for adults from March to July.

Brian Ashley, director of libraries at Arts Council England, said: “I’m delighted that we have supported the Write Time Write Place project throughout grants for the Arts programme – it is a great example of how National Lottery funding supports activities benefitting all members of the community.

“The workshops, publication and participation at the Wirral Book Festival will provide artistic opportunities within Wirral libraries, illustrating how libraries can be a hub at the centre of a local area bringing people together to learn and take part in arts and culture.”

Participants will be encouraged to finish their stories and submit them for a Write Time Write Place anthology which will be published.

Writers will also have the opportunity to read their work at this year’s Wirral Book Fest in October.

Creator of the project and local writer Charles Lea said: “We are delighted that Wirral Libraries have been successful in obtaining funding from the Arts Council and look forward to running the workshops with adults across the borough to inspire creative writing.

“We aim to help participants learn the skills to write a short story and to thereon write independently.

“We feel that there is no better sense of achievement for writers than to see their work published into an anthology.
