A POPULAR documentary about Chester Zoo will be coming back to television screens this month.

The Secret Life of the Zoo is back for its third series on Tuesday 28 on Channel 4.

In this first episode Pedro the giant anteater is about to be reunited with his long-term partner Bliss but then falls ill and is in desperate need for a major operation.

The zoo’s rare northern bald ibis birds produce a batch of chicks that set to be released back into the wild in southern Spain however one is critically underweight and must be hand-reared which could jepodise its chances of survival in the wild.

The greater one-horned rhino couple Beni and Asha will be reunited after four years of being separated while Asha raised their daughter Komala.

Nastasha the orchid mantis has eaten all of the males in the zoo except one and the hopes of breeding more of these unusual insects rest with two-centimetre-long Bruce who must mate with Natasha.

Head of factual at Blast! Films production company, Alistair Pegg said: “The third instalment of The Secret Life of the Zoo will get viewers closer than ever to some of the world’s rarest and most threatened creatures.

“You’ll see new animal relationships blossoming, families changing and lots of new arrivals.”
