TWO Merseyside explorer scouts have been selected for a trip of a lifetime on the 'Tall Ships Adventure'.

Emma Chinnery from Wallasey and Bex Hodge from St Helens were given a chance to sail on a Tall Ship after applying for the deep sea scouts tall ships bursary competition last year.

The pair will set sail on the Stavros S Niarchos for a week in April, becoming a part of the 66-man tall ships adventure crew.

This is a chance of a lifetime for the young scouts who will sail along the west coast of Scotland where they will learn nautical skills, work together in a close team - challenging themselves physically and mentally for life at sea.

As well as learning to sail, the duo will be responsible for running the vessel day and night which includes learning to navigate, assisting in the galley and helping to maintain the vessel.

Deputy county commissioner, Pamela Tompsett said: “We are extremely proud that both Bex and Emma have been chosen to represent not just Merseyside Scouts but also UK Scouting on this fantastic opportunity.

"We believe Scouting is all about providing skills for life in fun and challenging environments. This adventure truly provides that opportunity and we hope they enjoy their experience of a lifetime.”
