THE High Sherriff of Merseyside praised a Wirral school's sporting success following its receipt of a prestigious award.

Orrets Meadow Primary in Moreton was crowned Primary School of the Year at Merseyside Sporting Awards in November.

It earned the accolade for their excellent delivery of physical education to their students.

During a visit to the school this week the High Sherriff Jim Davies OBE paid tribute to the school's 'inspirational' staff on their efforts to ensure pupils reach their full sporting potential.

He said: "My visit with my wife Shirley was one of the best visits in my High Sheriff year.

"Orrets Meadow School is a truly wonderful school and the leadership of Mrs Duncan and her dedicated team is inspirational.

"Their award as 'Primary School of the Year for PE' on Merseyside is so well deserved."

The school offers support for children with specific learning difficulties or social communication difficulties.

Its PE leader David Saul ensures all children, regardless of disability participate and engage in PE with 91 percent of their pupils taking part in extra-curricular activities.

Head teacher, Carolyn Duncan said: "The children loved a representative of the Queen in the form of the High Sheriff visiting us today.

"He recognised all their hard work and enthusiasm for PE.

"He also congratulated the staff on all the work they do to ensure all pupils at Orrets Meadow fulfil their potential".
