POLICE have stepped up patrols in Wallasey after two vehicles were set alight around midnight on Sunday.

Pictures of the incidents have been uploaded to social media.

A video shows a van in flames at Rake Lane Cemetery just after 12.30am today.

Officers were called to Gorsey lane at around 12.15am to a report that a car had gone up in flames.

Merseyside fire service attended and extinguished the blaze.

Police were then called to Apsley Avenue at around 12.35am after reports a van was on fire in the cemetery.

Fire crews were again called and put out the blaze.

Both vehicles have been removed.

Police are investigating and making CCTV and forensic inquiries. 
Community Inspector Paul Harrison said: “The investigation is at an early stage and we are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious around the time that these occurred to contact us.


“Incidents like this are rare but we will have extra patrols in the area to reassure our community.”
