THE owners of a cat found dead in a Wirral park with horrific injuries are being urged to come forward.

The adult female, a breed of Tortie was found in Victoria Park, Tranmere with its head removed on Monday.

The RSPCA is appealing for more information about the gruesome discovery.

X-rays of the cat revealed two broken ribs and a broken sternum suggesting that the cat was seriously injured but experts say these do not match up to injuries sustained from being hit by a car.

There was very little blood on the coat of the cat so it is thought that the removal of the head happened after the death however this action raises ‘considerable concern’ that something more sinister has happened.

RSCPA inspector Anthony Joynes said: “We sometimes get animals that have been predated on post death by foxes or birds.

“On this occasion this does not appear to be the case and we are concerned at the initial findings of their two vets that have examined it.

“The cut appears to be incredibly clean as if done with a sharp article and no puncture wounds that may suggest any fox involvement have been found.

“We are concerned that the nature of the injuries found are consistent with some form of trauma and in the absence of obvious signs of being hit by a car, we would like to appeal for information as well as raising awareness that this incident has occurred.

“The pictures show some distinctive markings that the cat has that may be recognisable by the owner of this poor cat. Anyone with any information I would urge to get in touch.”
