THOUSANDS have paid tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country in Remembrance Sunday services across Wirral.

Leading the tributes at the Royal British Legion services was Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Pat Hackett.

He joined service men and women, their families and representatives of the armed forces at The Cenotaph in Hamilton Square, Birkenhead, before heading to Thornton Hough’s memorial service.

Poppy wreaths were laid on the Cenotaph in St Barnabas church yard by local groups, including schools, the Royal British Legion, Cllr Phil Gilchrist, the police, uniformed organisations and youth groups.

Amongst them was a spectacular ceramic wreath created by Autism Together, based in Bromborough.
