WARRINGTON Town have appointed former Tranmere Rovers assistant manager Paul Carden as their new boss.

The 37-year-old, who will be assisted by former Yellows striker Mark Beesley, takes over the reins at Cantilever Park following the departures of Stuart Mellish and Lee Smith on October 15.

After a playing career that took in Rochdale, Chester and Cambridge United, Carden was appointed Southport manager in 2015 and kept the club in the Conference National before leaving to coach at Tranmere in July of this year.

He spent a spell as interim manager at Prenton Park after the sacking of Gary Brabin, but left the club last week.

Earlier this month Tranmere confirmed the appointment of Micky Mellon as their new manager after he stepped down as Shrewsbury Town boss.

The 44-year-old Mellon enjoyed two successful spells at Tranmere as a player, making 205 appearances and scoring ten goals.

Carden’s first game in charge will be an FA Trophy clash with Nantwich Town at Cantilever Park on Saturday.

Last night Tranmere left it late but finally made the breakthrough to defeat North Ferriby United 1-0 at Prenton Park.

Andy Cook's 93rd minute header was the decisive strike as Rovers made it three league wins out of three for Mellon since he took charge.
