MR Carbine (letters, August 17) is wide off the mark taking a shot at bus company Stagecoach for routing the 38 bus through Port Sunlight Village.

He is gutted by the petition in which hundreds of residents are in favour of the bus service, and only nine against.

Stagecoach did their homework on this route, consulting residents, museum and art gallery, who were all in favour of the bus service.

We have frequent coaches, which are all welcome, which traverse the village all day long.

This service has become a vital lifeline, taking people to St Catherine's Hospital door-to-door.

If Mr Carbine wants serenity, less pollution, no grid-locking and more parking space, he should mount a campaign to get rid of the motor cars that cause all these problems 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Not everybody in the village has or wants a motor car, and the 38 bus is a welcome asset to these people.

No doubt Mr Carbine is a car owner, whose attitude appears to be "I’m ok, never mind anyone else."

For many years there was a bus service in Port Sunlight Village, until people taking to the motor car made it uneconomical, so the 38 service is nothing new, just a reintroduction of a much-needed and welcome public asset.
