A WALLASEY school girl is preparing shave all her hair off in order to raise money for Cancer Research and support the Little Princess Trust.

Having only ever had the occasional trim, 14-year-old Lauren Penny plans to donate her long hair to the Little Princess Trust to make a wig for a little boy or girl who is battling cancer.

After witnessing a couple of close family friends being diagnosed with the disease, she realised how much of an impact cancer can have on people’s lives and decided she wanted to help.

The Weatherhead High School pupil said: “At some point in our lives, cancer will affect someone we love or care for.

“I would like to do something worthwhile to help raise vital funds for Cancer Research and hopefully this will help them to one day find a cure for this horrible disease.”

Lauren has been planning the hair cut for more than a year now and although she initially planned to only get part of her hair cut, she decided to change it to a full shave as she believed this would help reach her fund raising target.

Mum, Michelle added there have been a few nerves from both herself and Lauren as the hair cut gets closer.

She said: “Lauren has been talking about this challenge for a while now, being a teenager of course she had to go and be more dramatic by getting a full head shave.

“She has always had long hair, so I am starting to get very nervous about how she will cope with the drastic change- no doubt there will be a few tantrums.

“It has only been in the last few months she has started using make up and styling her hair, which makes the challenge even harder for her.

“We are going on holiday two days later- I have stocked up on a lot of hats for her.

“Of course, she is nervous, there have been a few wobbles where she has worried whether she is doing the right thing, but she is a very determined 14-year-old and I am so proud of her.”

Lauren’s friends, who have been supporting her, will be helping cut some of her hair on the day.

The shave will be taking place on Friday July 22 at Passion Hair Salon on Poulton Road in Wallasey.
