A WIRRAL teenager is set to take part in the Gung-Ho challenge in Liverpool this weekend, raising money for the cancer charity which is supporting his Nan.

He is taking part to help raise money for Maggie’s Merseyside which is a cancer charity operating next to Clatterbridge hospital.

Jason, 15 was inspired to raise money for Maggie’s Merseyside after his Nan, Vera Edwards, was diagnosed with terminal cancer in November last year.

He said: “I am taking part in the Gung-Ho 5k run because I wanted to raise money for Maggie's Centre Clatterbridge where my Nan attends.”

“Maggie's Centres provide free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends.

“They have been a great help to my nan while she has been battling against cancer.”

Built in the grounds of Clatterbridge Hospital, Maggie’s Merseyside is a warm and welcoming place with qualified professional’s on-hand to offer an evidence-based core programme of support to people living with cancer.

Vera Edwards said: “I’m very proud of my lovely grandson, Jason, doing a sponsored charity run for Maggie's, who have been so helpful and supportive to me with my terminal cancer and all cancer patients who need their help and support.

“Wishing you the best of luck Jason. Well done. Love you.”

Maggie’s offers a ‘more than medicine’ approach for people living with cancer. This includes practical support such as benefits advice, social support such as nutrition and exercise classes, and emotional support through group and one-to-one sessions with psychologists and cancer support specialists.

Holly Smith, Centre Fundraising Manager said “We want to wish Jason good luck with his challenge, we hope it’s not too tough.

“We can’t thank Jason enough for his fundraising for us, which is nearly enough to pay for one of our Cancer Support Specialists to provide expert help to up to 100 visitors that walk through our doors each day.

“It’s really heart-warming that Jason has taken on this challenge for his Nan, and we’re glad that we’ve been here to support Vera and the rest of her family during a difficult time.

“Jason will ensure that we can be here for others affected by cancer too.”
