A GROUP from Wirral have been given a bloomin' brilliant task ahead of the Queen's visit to Liverpool today, Wednesday.

Wirral Lifelong Learning floristry class, based in St James Centre, Birkenhead, has been given the opportunity to provide floral decorations for Liverpool's Town Hall ahead of Her Majesty's visit for a private lunch.

Class tutor Maria Brand said she is delighted her students are being given such a huge opportunity.

She said: "We were approached by Liverpool Town Hall to dress the venue for a very important visitor.

"It is a wonderful opportunity for all of my students, it’s not every day you get asked to do flowers for the Queen."

As well as dressing the venue for Her Majesty’s private lunch, the group have also come together to design a Hillsborough tribute which will be on public display in the Town Hall.

Wirral Lifelong and Family Learning tutor Maria Brand also runs Alright Petal which was awarded a Local Business Accelerators Award in 2013.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will spend the day in Liverpool with a series of engagements in the city.

The royal visitors will attend the International Festival for Business and officially open Exhibition Centre Liverpool and the hotel Pullman Liverpool at Monarch's Quay on the waterfront.

At the exhibition centre, the royal party will take their seats to hear a performance by the Pagoda Chinese Orchestra.

The International Festival for Business 2016 aims to showcase the best of UK business to the world and encourage international trade.

The Queen and Prince Philip will later lunch at Liverpool's magnificent Georgian Town Hall, where they will view the crowds from the building's balcony before departing to visit Alder Hey Children's Hospital - where they will meet staff and patients.
