A CAMPAIGN has been launched to raise £4,000 for Wirral business owner Dawn Robinson after her Higher Bebington clothing store was broken into for the third time in two years.

Burglars forced their way into Nanuki in the early hours of Tuesday morning before stealing more than £6,000 worth of dresses, handbags and jewellery as well as cash from the till.

Owner Dawn told the Globe she was devastated to discover she had been targeted for the third time since she opened two and a half years ago.

Thieves forced their way into the store through a front window, leaving shattered glass strewn across the floor of the Broadway store.

Dawn said: “I’m still trying to pick myself up from the last break in – it’s expensive.

“You just think to yourself, ‘What have I done?’ People think it’s ok and the insurance will cover it but this is the third time I’ve been broken into, the insurance might not cover me next time.

“If I can’t get insured, then I can’t trade and my whole livelihood is gone. I’ll have to go from doing something I love to something else.

“I can’t afford to set up again – I put everything into this business and doing the shop up.”

Dozens of messages of support flooded in for Dawn and her business on social media.

But some questioned why Dawn hadn’t installed shutters on her shop to provide added security.

She said: “Shutters are expensive and cost around £4,000. Plus, my window is how I do business. I change the window display every day and people are always commenting on Facebook and asking about something they’ve seen when they’ve gone passed when we’re closed.

“There are shutters you can get that go behind the display but again, they’re expensive.”

Since her story was published on the Globe’s website on Tuesday afternoon, an online fundraising page has been set up in her honour.

Started by Sophie Smith, the page says: “My friend’s mum has recently had her shop ransacked by a bunch of scumbag thieves who must thrive off stealing other people’s well earned money and possessions.

“She has struggled to bring her business back not once, not twice but now for the third time.

“I've created this go fund me page to help support Dawn in hope to raise around £4,000 for some indoor shutters.

“Dawn would like her clothes to be seen from the outside as it helps promote the business so indoor shutters would be perfect.

“Any donation would be extremely helpful and would be going to an extremely good cause to help a lovely woman gain back her strength and courage to build back up her business.”

Police officers are currently retrieving CCTV from the area and carrying out enquiries in the local area.

Anyone who has any information should contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 2265 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
