POPSTAR turned fashion designer Myleene Klass was guest of honour at the opening of a revamped store in Wirral today.

The singer, TV presenter, businesswoman, model and mum-of-two cut the ribbon to open Mothercare’s refurbished store at Croft Retail Estate in Bromborough this morning.

The star who became a household name as member of the pop band Hear’Say – met shoppers after the ceremony and took time out to speak to the Globe.

She said: "I've been to Wirral a few times, love the place. The thing I particularly love about Wirral, and Merseyside in general, is their sense of humour. It's dry, like my own.

"It was also lovely to meet mums and their children."

Myleene took her first steps on the road to music stardom at age of four, when she picked up and played her grandfather's violin. Shortly afterwards she began playing the piano.

After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music, she worked as a session musician and made her West End debut in Miss Saigon.

In 2000, she was picked from thousands of hopefuls on ITV talent show Popstars to be part of manufactured group Hear'Say.

The band had huge hits with Pure and Simple and split in 2002.

A year later, Myleene released her debut solo album, Moving On.

Outside the world of music, the 37-year-old has presented a number of TV shows including Saturday morning ITV show, CD:UK, preceded Christine Bleakely and Alex Jones as co-host of The One Show and had her film review show, The Screening Room on CNN International. She also hosts a show on Classic FM.

In 2008, she launched her writing career, with the publication of My Bump and Me, written during her first pregnancy.

Next up came her own clothing range BabyK, which is available exclusively through Mothercare stores.

Looking back on her career, Myleene continued: "What's exciting for me is how diverse my career has been.

"I've done so much in a relatively short time. Never, ever imagined I would have the success that I've achieved.

"I've played with my heroes, like Chaka Khan and have travelled the world to find inspirations for my clothing line. I love the challenge of creating the clothes in my BabyK range.

"It has been, and still is, an exciting ride. One that I am thoroughly enjoying and am so happy to have been given the opportunities that I have.

"I want the kids to live their own lives.”

Looking to the future, “I’ve just finished filming a documentary called Barbecue Champ for ITV. As a Filipino girl I love my food, so leapt at the chance to be in a show like this.

"I love barbecues, but this show teaches you to cook things like Yorkshire puddings on them, which I didn’t think was possible. It was a great show to be involved in.

"I’m delighted that my latest BabyK collection has arrived at the newly-revamped Mothercare Bromborough store just in time for the summer holiday season.

“I’d like to think I’d still be producing clothes for Mothercare in 25 years time.

"I'm having a brilliant time, and who knows what the future holds. I'm looking forward to finding out.”
