AROUND 1,000 people took part in a colourful splash dash in Birkenhead Park for Claire House at the weekend raising £50,000 for the hospice.

Your Globe entered a team - and our super salesman Sean Glennon was first to cross the finishing line in just under eight minutes.

Lauren Luxton, Claire House marketing manager, said: "It was the first time we’d held the dash in Birkenhead Park but it won't be the last.

"It was a fantastic day and the atmosphere was amazing. Thanks to everyone who took part.

"The support for this event has been phenomenal over the years.

"We estimate it will raise £50,000 for Claire House, providing care, support and choice for families whose children aren’t expected to live to be adults."

Participants had to run, skip, walk or even dance the three-kilometre route, while being pelted with coloured powdered paint at every turn.

Setting them off on their way around the course was a team of four young children who attend Claire House and their parents.

The four, accompanied by their carers, featured three-year-old Romeo Weiss, Aimee Evans, 14, Megan Gibney, 11 and Rachel Conboy, 16.

The families of children who passed away at Claire House also showed their support by throwing paint over the runners.

Jackie, Ian and nine-year-old son Finley Wild, threw red paint in memory of their Liverpool mad son Elliot Wild, who died in 2011, aged nine.

Linda, Colin Cook and seven-year-old daughter Emelia threw paint in memory of daughter Ellie who passed away in 2011 aged seven.

Lynn, Mike and son Will Kell, 19, from Bebington threw purple paint in memory of daughter Annie, who died in 2010 aged 13.

Lauren continued: "All children were cared for at Claire House Children’s Hospice during their illnesses and their families have received on-going support from the hospice."
