A WIRRAL school has welcomed its latest “kid” with open arms.

Willamina the pygmy goat arrived at Woodchurch High School on Wednesday thanks to a donation from the Rotary Club.

The donation commemorates the visit of Peter Davey, the President of Rotary in Britain and Ireland.

Mr. Davey had expressed a wish to view one of the Birkenhead Club’s supported projects in the community and, accompanied by his wife Sandra, Rotary officials and the newly elected Birkenhead Rotary President Hugh Lloyd, he visited the Birkenhead school – which operates its own working farm – and the school’s Interact Club, which was set up in 2014 with the support of the Birkenhead branch.

Willamina is the latest addition to the farm’s variety of animals, which includes chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, quail and a sulcata tortoise.

Hugh Lloyd, Birkenhead Rotary President, said: “We very much value our relationship with Woodchurch High School and are delighted to have welcomed RIBI President Peter Davey. It is a real honour for Birkenhead and Wirral to be selected for one of his first visits within the UK.”

Headteacher Rebekah Phillips said: “The pupils are delighted with the new addition to the Woodchurch High School Farm and want to thank Birkenhead Rotary Club for their contribution.

“As a school we enjoy our partnership with Rotary and through the Interact Club pupils are developing their leadership skills and their awareness of the value of contributing to their community.”

Interact clubs are based in schools and colleges and are aimed at 12 to 18 year olds who enjoy working together to help local communities, make new friends and discover new challenges.
