AROUND 50 balloon-covered taxis arrived in New Brighton today as generous cabbies took more than 60 blind and sensory impaired children on a fun day out to the seaside resort.
The cabbies arrived just before 12.30pm today, Wednesday, with their horns-a-honking and passengers excited for the day ahead.
The event – which has been running for more than 65 years – was organised by the Liverpool Taxicab Trade, with cabbies eager to give the children a day to remember.
Harry Doran, committee member and proud cabbie, told the Globe: “It’s a great day out – the cabbies look forward to it just as much as the kids do. They absolutely love it.”

The group will start with a lunch party at the Floral Pavilion before heading to New Brighton’s fun fair and bowling alley.
They will then return to the Floral for tea, where they will each be given a present worth £25 of their own choosing.
Harry added: “We’ve been coming to New Brighton for the last five years now and the Floral Pavilion can’t do enough for us – they’re fantastic.
"Wells are fantastic too and Kevin at the fairground. We couldn't do it with Merseyside Police escorting us either as it would be too dangerous."
The charitable taxi drivers picked up the children from the Royal School for the Blind in Wavertree and St Vincent’s school in West Derby.
