Birkenhead Park . . . 26 pts

Kendal . . . . . . . . 27 ptsCONSIDERING there was nothing but pride at stake, Birkenhead Park and Kendal laid on a fully committed contest to conclude the North One League season.

The lead changed hands a number of times before Kendal edged ahead with only five minutes remaining.

Tony Handley had a chance to win the game for Park with the last kick of the match, but the penalty drifted wide as Kendal held on for victory by a single point.

Park went ahead when winger Greg Hughes raced through for the first try after six minutes, with Handley converting. Kendal soon responded, scoring a converted try under the posts, took the lead with another converted try and then kicked a penalty.

Park gained their second try through second row Paul Hellier.

Handley converted but Kendal kicked another penalty for a 20-14 half-time lead.

Birkenhead recaptured the lead early in the second-half through a Danny Jones try, Handley's conversion giving Park a one point advantage.

A Steve Clarke try increased Park's lead 10 minutes from time. Kendal refused to throw in the towel and they broke away for the decisive try and conversion.
